About Me
Meet Kathy Elstad
Hi! Would you like to know a little bit about me? My name is Kathy Elstad and I love to write! I’m a retired first grade teacher and I loved teaching literacy to my students. Once I went to a conference and heard Lucy Calkins speak in her stocking feet about writing! By the end of the day, I was hooked and so were my students! I fell in love with writing. I wrote a couple of childrens’ books. But, in 2004 something very sad happened — I lost my Mom and Dad in 2 in a half months of each other. They were my safe place! What was I going to do? I started a journey for a new safe place which turned out to be my new friend, God. In 2015, I began writing about my journey. I was 58 when I started and I learned SO much I wish I knew earlier in my life. So, I decided to share so people could think about these things earlier in their life — even young people!
I love lots of other things too! I LOVE GOD. I REALLY love my family and spending time with them is the BEST! I love my dog, Sophie. She loves to have me spray her with the hose! She gets SO excited! I have a best friend of 64 years and WE LOVE HEARTLAND! I love to quilt and give the quilts to people to make them feel warm and cozy. I have a screen porch in the summer that I love to sit on, write and drink tea and eat cookies, visit with family and friends. My favorite food is Pizza! I’ve even been known as the Pizza Queen!
I really love to share and I hope you will feel comfortable to share with me. I love chatting — Just ask my grandson, James. He calls me Chatty Kathy1 Oh, and I LOVE TO LAUGH!
Thought Collecting
I love collecting thoughts — lots of thoughts. I read with a pad of paper and a pen. You never know when a great thought will pop up. I need to be ready to catch it — write it down. I am a parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, teacher, lover of God. I have lots of thoughts and I love to share thoughts on inspiration, parenting, children/activities, teaching/activities, writing, developing a relationship with God and my newest interest, self-talk.
