An Excerpt From A Journey to Faith

One year, my daughter, Tiffani, took me to Crystal Cove in California for Mother’s Day and I fell in love. Ever since, I’ve dreamed of revisiting Crystal Cove and I did!
So, I’m sitting above the “Keep Off” sign on a closed life guard stand, thinking and writing. I’m thinking — Crystal Cove is sooooooo amazing! Less than 20 feet from me, waves are rolling in and crashing! I so love the sight and sounds of those waves! Can you imagine how I am feeling? Happy, yes, very happy!
Positive thoughts make me happy! They energize me! They give me peace. I know, easy for me. Crystal Cove is a beautiful place. It’s true, but, what you don’t know, is that today, I have had 2 set backs — 2 BIG set backs!
My dream had been to spend the day exploring the rock and tide pool area and taking amazing pictures with my 42 zoom camera. As I walked up to the beach, my eyes grew big! The tide was coming in, bringing the water right up to the picnic tables in front of The Beachcomber Restaurant! Wow! I really will be eating on the beach today! Fabulous! But, as I looked to my left, at the rock and tide pool area, it was covered with water. Oh no — how was I going to explore, write, take amazing pictures, capture the beauty of Crystal Cove and bring it home with me? So, I thought. Well, I am here all day. I’m sure the water will begin receding and later I can explore. So off to Plan B. I will take pictures of the cottages of Crystal Cove, walk the beach and have my potato pancakes at The Beachcombers! So off I went!
The original cottages — very dilapidated — are part of a restoration project. They are fenced off, but can easily be seen along the beach. I took my camera, with the new battery, and began to click, click, click, stop! Stop? What? Oh no, the camera screen said, “Battery exhausted.” That can’t be! I just bought a brand new battery for the trip. But, the battery was exhausted. So, no pictures capturing the close up beauty of Crystal Cove could be taken. All I had was my iPhone. My dream was definitely NOT happening!
Oh, well. So I walked down the beach. There was still many wonderful things to see and instead of writing on top of one of the big rocks with water splashing around me, I climbed up the life guard stand and began writing.
That day I had choices to make! I love that I have the power of choice over my thoughts. Easily, I could have seen my day as ruined! Things did not turn out as I had imagined! But, instead of being sad or angry, I chose to be positive, happy and enjoy my day. My potato pancakes were deeeeeelicious! The cottages were interesting and made me feel that they had stories to tell! I definitely want to research Crystal Cove. Before the end of the day, the water did recede some. I did a tiny bit of exploring and a tiny bit of writing on a large rock with water splashing around me! Amazingly, the I Phone pictures turned out not so bad! I even spent a delightful afternoon with my son-in-law, Ken, who introduced me to beignets! Amazing! The day was not my dream, but it still was an amazing day and I have an excuse to go back to Crystal Cove!
Life is Good — if you choose it to be! Disappointments and all!
